Established in 2010, ‘Weedon Cooperative Growers’ is a fantastic working example of a local growing cooperative.
Every year the shareholders are confirmed and reshuffled. This year 6 families are involved, they equally share the work, costs, and most importantly the produce.
During the growing season a representative from each family comes to the plot once a week to contribute 2 hours of labour, and share the rewards. Each person contributes something different, depending on their strengths.
The food is organically grown, and soil is replenished using home-made compost.
Using this model, those of us without the land to do so, or without the time to do so, are able to enjoy the benefit of growing their own fruit and vegetables.
